George Floyd Wooley, 90, of Leesville passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Eddie Walter and Ella Ridgell Warren Wooley. He was a US Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Wooley worked in heavy duty refrigeration as a Mechanical Engineer for various dairies and bottling companies until his retirement and later worked the Lexington County Collection and Recycling Center at Summit in Leesville. He loved to garden, especially growing tomatoes and was known as a simple man with a big heart. Mr. Wooley read and studied his Bible daily. He was a longtime member of Providence Baptist Church.
Mr. Wooley is survived by his daughters, Mary Puryear (Joe Henderson), Rebekah Williams and Linda De Lira (Rafael). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wooley was preceded in death by his wife, Faynetta Blanche Wooley; his son, George F. Wooley, Jr.; and three sisters and five brothers.
The service for Mr. Wooley will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 3rd at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Pitts officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary. Burial with military honors will be private at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
