Ada Ann Cook Hinson, 76, of Gilbert, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Born in Gilbert, SC, she was a daughter of the late Furman Luther Cook, Sr. and Myrtle Ethel Kelly Cook. Ada was a devoted member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where she was formerly active as a Sunday School teacher and cherished her time spent with the children of the congregation. She also enjoyed crocheting, a hobby that brought her much joy over the years. Throughout her life, Ada dedicated many years of service working in various roles across Lexington County. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
Surviving are her son, Matthew Hinson; sisters and brother-in-law, Janie C. Taylor (Berley), Patty B. Hutto; brother and sister-in-law, William L. "Petey" Bush (Reva); as well as many extend family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Homer M. Cook, Robert T. Bush, Kenneth M. Cook, Sr and Furman Luther Cook, Jr.; sister, Joyce C. Ricard; and brother-in-law, Virgil Hutto.
The funeral service for Ada will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, January 12th at First Calvary Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Mendle Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2 PM in the sanctuary. Active pallbearers will be her nephews and family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Calvary Baptist Church, 2320 Cedar Grove Road, Leesville, SC 29070.
