Alpha Wilson Cullum, 94, of Chapin, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 1, at Batesburg Cemetery, Howard Street and Hibiscus Drive, with the Rev. Dr. Ben Sloan officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robert Cullum, Samuel Cullum, Josh Wrightson, Jay Wright, Ronald Derrick and Lamar Clark.
Mrs. Cullum was born on July 5, 1922, in Southern Pines, NC, daughter of the late Samuel Newton and Alpha Wilson Hammond. She was married to the late William Eldridge Cullum. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and the owner and vice president of Cullums of S.C. She was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Columbia, SC where she was active in several church organizations. She was also active in many social and civic organizations as well.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Tricia) Cullum of Chapin; daughter, Beth C. Wright of Columbia; grandchildren, Samuel (Heather) Cullum; Dena Frederick; Anne-Morris Cullum; Christen (Steve) Hairston; Josh (Lara) Wrightson; Amanda Wright; and Jay Wright; great grandchildren, Britt and Will Cullum; Mariana and Sebastian Hairston. She was preceded in death by her husband; William Cullum; son, William E. Cullum Jr.; grandson, William E. Cullum III; and sister, Frances Hixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lake Murray Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministry Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to express our thanks to the staff of Generations of Chapin; Blue Ridge Hospice and Chapin Family Practice, especially Betty Pelletier, ANP for the loving care they provided our mother.
