Arlene Virginia Duke

Arlene Virginia Duke, 86, of Batesburg, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024. Mrs. Duke was born in Thurmont, MD, a daughter of the late Lee Layman and Mary Katharine Powell Layman Miller. She met her husband, James, while he was stationed at Camp David in Thurmont, MD. Their marriage led them to many duty stations including Italy and Scotland, which she adored. Knitting and Crocheting was her way of relaxing. Mrs. Duke gifted many of her beautiful creations.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, James Duke; daughter, Katharine Duke; along with her three granchildren, Breck Hurst, Brandon McGohan-Duke (Samantha) and Ryan Hoffman. Also surviving are her brothers, Lee G. Layman, Rick Miller and Jae Miller; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Allen and Joseph Duke; brother, Ernie Layman; and sister, Barbara Cutsail.

The graveside service for Mrs. Duke will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 9th at Billy Matthews Cemetery with Rev. Ken Freeman officiating. Milton Shealy Funeral Home is assisting the family.
