Vance Aven Martin, Sr., 66, of Leesville passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022. Born in Leesville, he was a son of the late Floyd and Christine Shealy Martin. Aven was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College where he earned a degree in Mortuary Science and was employed with Milton Shealy Funeral Home. He was a founding member of the Circle Fire Department, a member of the Masonic Lodge Saluda 103 and was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Reuter Martin; his daughter, Geri C. Martin (Jesse Moskel); his son, Vance Aven Martin Jr. (Rena Johnson); five grandchildren, Aidan Transue, Corbin Martin, Willow Martin, Dixon Martin and Molly Moskel. He is also survived by brothers, Harley Martin (Donnette), James Martin (Molly); sister, Loretta Crowley (John); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Connie Hartley, Susan Hancock (Allen), Marion Reuter (Marsha) and Bruce Reuter (Iris); and numerous extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Calvin and Russell Martin.
The service for Aven will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29th at Rehoboth United Methodist Church with Pastor Kenneth Colton and Pastor Noble Miller officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery with masonic rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary. Active pallbearers will be: Scott Martin, Eric Martin, Jason Stone, Reggie Martin, Christian Martin, Kris Amick, Ben Reuter, and Derek Reuter and serving as honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
