Betty McGee Washington, 73, of Charleston, SC, died March 11, 2016. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Lisa Isenhower. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 pm Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Betty was born October 10, 1942 to the late Price and Minnie Lee McGee. She is a graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School, Class of 1960, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.
Betty worked as a legal secretary and paralegal for many years in Columbia and Barnwell. She later became a court reporter and worked until her retirement in Columbia, Camden and Myrtle Beach areas.
Betty loved to garden, read, and cook for her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. Her yard was always full of the prettiest flowers and she enjoyed helping friends design their yards and gardens. She enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and would often bring dinner to her family in the evenings when they were exhausted from work. She was a loving person and would do anything to help others.
Betty is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Edwin (Maxine) McGee of Batesburg; sister, Helen Winstead of Batesburg; children and their spouses, Sheryl Allen Moore and Timothy Moore of Summerville, and John Allen (Tripp) and Denise Allen of Chapin; grandchildren, Kerry Allen of Miami Beach, Fl, Ashli Harley and Julian of Destin, Fl, Sean Allen of Columbia, Casey Franke and Samantha of Charleston, and Tyler Allen of Columbia; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan F. Washington, brothers, Roderick and Charles McGee, and a sister Edith Corley. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to your local Humane Society Pet Shelter or Faith Lutheran Church, 113 N. Oak Street, Batesburg, SC 29006.
