Billy Wayne “High Pocket” Rowe, 73, of Saluda, passed away March 24, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 o’clock Tuesday, March 27, at Pine Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Burton Campbell and Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating. Interment will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery with full military honors. Active pallbearers will be Nick Long, Corbie Long, Buddy Bryan, Robert Bryan, Richard Bryan, Jack Bayless, Richard Banks and Joe Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Zach Matthews, Brandon Padgett, Mason Jones, Wayne Grice and Hunter Coleman.
Mr. Rowe was born in Saluda County, son of the late Bill and Catherine Rowe. He was a retired carpenter and mechanic. Mr. Rowe was a former coach, umpire and mentor. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, with the 820th MP Platoon and South Carolina National Guard. He was an avid South Carolina Gamecock, Atlanta Braves, King Academy Knights and Ninety Six Wildcat Fan. He was the biggest supporter and fan of his grandsons while they played sports and coached. Mr. Rowe enjoyed building things for his family. His favorite bible verse “Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
Surviving are his wife, Hilda Elaine Wise Rowe; children, Lisa (Chris) Long of Saluda; Denise Rowe of Saluda; Angie Rowe of Lexington; grandchildren, Nick (Jessica) Long of Greenwood; Corbie Long of Saluda; great grandchild, Lyla Long; brothers, Terry (Dale) Rowe of Saluda; Virgil (Joyce) Rowe of Altha, FL; sisters, Nancy (Cleve) Watson; Polly (Lester) Derrick; nephews, Buddy Bryan of Folly Beach, SC; Richard Bryan of Ladson, SC Robert (Angie) Bryan of St. George, SC; Tracy Wise of Philippines; nieces, Linda (Jack) Bayless of Chester, VA; Kim Wise of Georgia; great nieces, Nicole Bayless; Mallory Bryan; Nichole Bryan; great nephews, Brice Bryan and Huston Bryan. fur babies, Sadie and Sissy Rowe; and longtime friend and brother in Christ, Doug Grice of Saluda. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lenwood Rowe.
