Birdett "B Ray" Hayes

Birdett "B Ray" Hayes, 73, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, August 14, at Cedar Grove Lutheran Church with Reverend Alvin Shrum and Pastor Larry Pitts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 13, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his home. Active pallbearers will be Tim Kyzer, Bill Mulkey, Brian Shealy, Darrin Shealy, Phillip Taylor, Sammy Sanders, Micheal Addy and Brett Price. Mr. Hayes was born in Lexington County and was the son of the late Shafter Ray and Cleo Watkins Hayes. He was a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Army from 1966 - 1968, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 138 of Batesburg-Leesville. He was a truck driver and retired after 36 years. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra Price Hayes and their two sons, Chad Stephen Hayes of Leesville; and Kenneth Ray Hayes and wife, Amanda of Lexington. He was a proud and loving "Papa" to his only grandson, Parker Kenneth Hayes. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Frances (George) Kyzer of Leesville and mother-in-law, Ola M. Price of Leesville. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Rice; niece, Melissa Rice; and father-in-law, Kenneth E. Price. Memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, 1220 Cedar Grove Road, Leesville, SC 29070. The family would also like to give special thanks to the staff of the 8th floor oncology staff of Lexington Medical Center. They became a part of the family during the past 13 weeks.
