Boyd Benton

Boyd Benton, 83, of Batesburg, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021. A private family graveside service will be held at Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. John Yorio officiating. Please wear masks and social distance. Friends may come visit from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Friday, January 22nd, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.

Mr. Benton was born in West Columbia, SC on September 15, 1937, and was a son of the late Rev. Carl Benton and Sallie T. Benton. He was a member of Samaria Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on other committees. Mr. Benton served four years in the Army National Guard and two years in the U.S. Army. He retired from the textile industry after 43 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Yvonne T. Benton; a daughter, Cathy B. Wayne (Scott) of Lexington; a grandson, Brandon S. Wayne of Lexington; a sister, Shirley Ann Brown of Belmont, N.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Thaddeus, Frank, Clyde, and Doyd (Twin Brother); and sisters, Carlene Breitenbach, Annie Mae Metts, Eula Ring, and Blondell Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Samaria Baptist Church, 6560 Fairview Road, Batesburg, SC 29006, the American Heart Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
