Bruce Dale Shaw

Bruce Dale Shaw passed away on January 5, 2022 at the age of 61. Born in Prosperity, South Carolina to the late Claude Benjamin Shaw and Alma Ruth Wooley he was a fighter to the end, whose legacy of kindness and selflessness was an example to everyone in the community.

A proud family man, Bruce is survived by his two sons, Brandon Matthew (Jennifer) and Daniel Adam (Whitney); his loving fiancé, Fran Long; and beloved grandchildren, Bowen Robert, Conway Benjamin, Hadley Dene, and Patrick Boone Shaw. Also surviving are his siblings, Barbara Shaw Walters, Gail Shaw (Ricky Gulledge), Sammy Shaw (Jennifer), and Robert Greg Anderson; his five nieces, and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Clinton Anderson and his best friend and farming partner, Robert Laten “Billy” Mize.

A 26-year veteran of the South Carolina Army National Guard, SFC (RET.) Bruce Shaw served honorably in the 122nd Engineer Company [CSE] and had a decorated military career. For his service in the Operation Iraqi Freedom Campaign, SFC Shaw earned a Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, South Carolina Achievement Ribbon, South Carolina Palmetto Service Ribbon, South Carolina Governor’s Unit Citation, and many other awards for his bravery.

In addition to being a long-time farmer, heavy equipment operator, and member of the Batesburg-Leesville Masonic Lodge, Bruce Shaw was a friend to many and a role-model to all. A salt-of-the Earth man with a generous soul, he will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and love for family.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Milton Shealy Funeral Home with interment to follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Day and the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Critical Care Unit and Medical Intensive Care Unit of Lexington Medical Center for the compassionate care for our beloved father.
