Carson Whitfield "Whit" Cato, Jr., 79, of Batesburg passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at his home. Born in Monetta, SC, he was a son of the late Carson Whitfield Cato, Sr. and Eula Lee Whetstone Cato. He was the Batesburg-Leesville Hillbilly in the SC Poultry Festival. Mr. Cato was also a member of First Baptist Church of Leesville.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Ann Cook Cato; his children, Dana Marie Cato Risher (Buri), Donald Whitfield Cato (Sandra); five grandchildren, AJ Gidron (Erica), Jade Gidron, Sean Whitfield Cato, Michael Donley Cato, and Rebecca Elaine Cato. He is also survived by his brother, Clarence Michael Cato (Loretta) and a sister, Phyllis Cato Cockrell as well as nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Lee Cato and brother-in-law, Gene Cockrell.
The service for Mr. Cato will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 20th at First Baptist Church of Leesville with Pastor Charles Leonhardt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park.
