Christopher "Chris" Michael Gunter, 53, of Leesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy battle of cancer. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of Iris Goss Gunter and the late Robert Michael "Mike" Gunter. Chris was known for his immense generosity and kind spirit, always willing to help anyone in need. He never met a stranger and was always looking out for others more than himself. As the proud owner of Midlands Concrete Finishing, LLC, Chris found great passion in his work, and became a master in pouring concrete. He loved deeply—especially his family, whom he adored with all his heart.

Chris was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, and one of his greatest joys was watching his son play baseball. He also loved crappie fishing, hunting, and spending time in the outdoors. His warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew him, and he truly be missed by all.

Chris will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jessica Whittle Gunter; his children, Ivy Gunter Coleman (Austin) and Huntley Gunter; and his cherished grandchildren, Ila Rose and Steadman Michael Coleman, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his mother, Iris Gunter; brother, Jamie Gunter, as well as numerous family and friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a cousin, Wills Swygert. Chris's legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

The funeral service for Chris will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 10th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home with burial following in Steadman Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Russell Whittle will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be: Jamie Rikard, Eddie Boland, Sheldon (Opey) Gunter, Dwight Stevens, Cody Whittle, Garett Shealy, Scott Shealy and Matt Nettles.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lexington Oncology, especially nurse practitioner Haliegh Taylor, the team at Amedisys Hospice, Brandy Hallman, and Chris’s sister-in-law, Billie Jo Shealy, for their unwavering care and support during this difficult time.
