It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the sudden passing of our beloved son and brother, Cory Blake Powers, born on July 5, 1997, and passed away on June 24th, 2023. He is now an Angel of the Lord in Heaven. Cory attended Chapin High School, graduating in 2015. Following high school, he attended Midlands Technical College Nursing program and graduated in 2022 and as a nurse he served others at Prisma Health Richland Cardiac Pulmonary Intensive Care Unit.
Cory enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating on Lake Murray, and other outdoor activities/sports throughout his lifetime. He and his best friend Brad were charter members of the Chapin Bass Fishing Club. Cory enjoyed gardening with his Dad, and loved to travel with his mother, father and sister. He deeply loved spending time with his family and friends. Cory was a member of Chapin Baptist Church. He was a bright, intelligent, charismatic young man with a quick wit and infectious smile who enjoyed making people laugh. He was an avid Alabama (Roll Tide!) and Gamecock fan .
Cory is survived by his parents, Blake and Libby Powers; sister, Carly Powers; maternal grandparents, Peggy and Jimmy Lewis of Chapin; paternal grandmother, Kathryn Powers of Batesburg-Leesville, Bill and Nancy Thomason (Nana and Papa) of Greenwood, Shirley Knox (Great Aunt Shirley). He is also survived by many aunts and uncles: Lynn and Michael Semino, Robby and Dayne Haile, Devon and Michael Lake and many cousins. Cory was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Knox, Gene Powers and uncle, Parker Powers. He will also be missed by his beloved cat, Loco.
His departure leaves an indelible void in our hearts, but our memories of him will forever remain with us.
A memorial service celebrating Cory will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29th at Chapin Baptist Church, the Pointe Student Worship Center, 950 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin, South Carolina 29036. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m and asked that you wear bright colored clothing to honor Cory. Honorary pallbearers will be: Austin Jeffords, Brad Williamson, Zeabeon Dreher, Luther Truluck, and William Rowland; along with George Dreher in spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cory's memory may be made to the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands, c/o Prisma Health Midlands Foundation, 1600 Marion Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.
