Danny Houston Matthews

Danny Houston Matthews, 81, of Leesville, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 30, at Sardis Baptist Church with interment in Cleve Matthews Cemetery with Rev. Robert Culbertson and Dr. Don Bishop officiating. Active pallbearers are Charlton “Pete” Sample, Gehrig Minick, Jesse Minick, Kevin Fulmer, Ryan Fulmer, Carl Drafts, Vernon Hallman and Stevie Lindler. Honorary pallbearers are Sardis Baptist Church Adult Men’s Class, American Legion Post 65 in Saluda, and American Legion Post 123 in Fountain Inn.

Mr. Matthews was born in Saluda County, son of the late Forace Houston and Floy Lucille Bowers Matthews. He had worked in the textile industry. He was a lifelong member of Sardis Baptist Church. He was an Air Force Veteran during the Korean Conflict and member of American Legion Post 123 in Fountain Inn and Post 65 in Saluda. He frequently shared his quick wit and dry sense of humor with his family and friends and often reflected on family events with warm laughter and a smile.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Joyce Shealy Matthews; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Shealy (Milford) Drafts; nephew, Carl Drafts; his adopted daughters, Deborah (Gehrig) Minick; Donna (Kevin) Fulmer; and his extended family, Doris Hite; Sarah Minick; Jesse (Andrea) Minick; Jenny (Stevie) Lindler; Ryan Fulmer; Gracie, Brenna, Wyatt, and Noah Minick; Ellie and Aubrey Lindler.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, December 29, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his residence.
