Funeral services for Doris Trotter Platts, 90, of Ridge Spring, S.C., will be held on Thursday, July 12, at 11:00 AM in Ridge Spring Baptist Church with the Reverend Bobby Jackson officiating; burial will follow the service at Ridge Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church social hall. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to Ridge Spring Baptist Church. Mrs. Platts passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018.
Born in Saluda County, Doris was the daughter of the late Ernest Buster Trotter and Leona Rodgers Trotter. Doris attended Ridge Spring Schools where she was a star basketball player and a Ridge Spring Peach Festival Queen. She was married to the late Edwin L. Platts, Sr, for 63 years and spent her life caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was employed as a secretary with the Johnston Woolen Mills and a cashier for Ridge Spring Grocery. She was a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church where she served as a Training Union Teacher, YWA leader, Sunbeam leader, and a member of the WMU. She was a member of the Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Ridge Spring Women’s Study Club. For the past three years, she lived at Generations Independant & Assisted Living of Batesburg where she enjoyed socializing with her many friends.
Survivors include her sons, Edwin (Elaine) Platts of Denmark, Thomas (Sandy) Platts of Ridge Spring, and David (Ron Cox) Platts of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, Will (Tammy) Platts of Carey, NC, Tim (Mary) Platts of Charleston, Becky (Jason) Williams of Lexington, Patty (Josh) Brickey of Gilbert, Tara (Daniel) Bailey of Blythewood, Daniel (Ashlyn) Platts of LaVonia GA, Holbrook Platts of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Sarah Platts of Charlotte, NC, and Christopher Cox of Barnwell, SC, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, Heyward Trotter and Ansel (Mary Lynn) Trotter both of Saluda. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Banks of Saluda, Winifred Reames of Johnston, two brothers, Billy Trotter of Batesburg and Truman Trotter of Saluda. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Will Platts, Tim Platts, Daniel Platts, Holbrook Platts, Jason Williams, Josh Brickey, and Daniel Bailey.
A special thank you is extended to the staff and residents of Generations of Batesburg for the love, and friendship, that was extended to her during her residence there.
