Dorothy Jean Gunter Holmes, 85, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024. Mrs. Holmes was born in Batesburg, SC, a daughter of the late Daniel "DC" and Pearl Derrick Gunter. She was married to the late William "Billy" A. Holmes. Mrs. Jean was a faithful member of West Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, taught the children's choir, and played the piano. She spent several years working as a registered nurse and teaching night school as a Literacy Coach. Mrs. Jean was referred to as the "Little Red Hat Lady" and loved gardening. She cherished laughing, her family, and her Lord above anything.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. Holmes (Geniene); daughter, Kim Holmes; three grandchildren, Sarah Holmes, Katy Holmes, Brandi Anderson; three great grandchildren, Hunter Holder, Kalie Holder and David Whitling; as well as three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Linda Gunter; and brother, Bob Gunter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Gunter.
A family and friends gathering for Mrs. Jean will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 17th , at West Creek Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to honor Mrs. Holmes by bringing your favorite covered dish. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Creek Baptist Church, 400 Church Road, Batesburg, SC 29006.
