Earl Ray “Jack” Shealy, 92, of Batesburg-Leesville, SC, died Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018, in the chapel at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Batesburg, SC, with the Rev. Henry Stamper officiating. Interment will follow in the Batesburg Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday, September 13, other times at the residence 119 Fairchild Street, Batesburg, SC.
Born July 14, 1926, in Leesville, he was the eldest son of the late Raymond E. and Nannie Dickert Shealy. Mr. Shealy was a member of First Baptist Church of Batesburg. Jack, as he was lovingly known by family and friends, was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from DuPont Company, Savannah River Site, Aiken, SC, with 32 years of service. He was a life member of Batesburg-Leesville Masonic Lodge No. 138.
In addition, he worked part-time for many years with Milton Shealy Funeral Home of Batesburg, SC. He served three terms on the Batesburg Town Council and he was a volunteer fireman for the town of Batesburg. After retirement, he worked as a supervisor for the Town of Batesburg Street Department.
Mr. Shealy enjoyed watching sports especially Gamecocks football, NASCAR, and baseball. He also enjoyed gardening and working with his hands.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Spradley Shealy; three daughters, Dianne (Ray) Cockrell, Cindy (Jimmy) Quattlebaum, and Pamela (John) Wessinger all of Batesburg; six grandchildren: Chris Cockrell, Josh (Megan) Quattlebaum, Eric Cockrell, Stacy Quattlebaum, Jaclyn Wessinger, and Nicholas Wessinger; two brothers, Broadus (Nancy) Shealy and Vernon (Brenda) Shealy of Batesburg-Leesville.
On September 17 Jack and Geraldine would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Vanolin, Roosevelt, and David Shealy; and three sisters, Ramona Player, Annette and Vera Shealy.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends: Steve Player, John Wayne Shealy, Jamie Shealy, Marty Shealy, Everette Shealy, Charles Shealy, Steve Mullins, Hamp Spradley, Tim McCarty, and Steve Wyatt.
Many thanks to Professional Case Management and Medical Services of America Hospice for providing so many wonderful nurses that enabled us to keep daddy at home. A special thank you to Kate Ashe who loved and cared for Mr. Jack for over two years.
