Edward Steele was called home to Heaven on February 5, 2022, at the age of 84, just three days before his 85th birthday. He was born in Saluda County on February 8, 1937, one of seventeen children of the late Eddie and Ethel Storey Steele.
Edward loved His Lord and Savior, his family, church family, neighbors and other friends dearly. He was truly loved by everyone he ever met! You knew there was always a song in his heart because he was either humming or singing throughout the day. Besides spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, taking care of his yard, playing golf with his brother or just hitting golf balls in the backyard alone or with his grandchildren.
Edward is survived by his wife, Ola Mae Smith Steele; they have been lovingly devoted to each other for 65 years. Together they have three children, Richard Steele (Noel), Cyndee Crout (Donnie), and Len Craps (Neil). They are blessed to have three granddaughters, Jessica, Gracen (Dustin) and Sarah Jo (Michael); six grandsons, Jacob (Chanda), Bryce (Alexandria), Justin, McKenzie (Michelle "Mikey"), Jeremy (Laken) and Joshua (Riley); along with seven great granddaughters, Shiloh, Addalyn, Annaleigh, Violet, Lacie, Pandora and Chloe; and six great grandsons, Levi, Isaac, Ezra, Emery, Leo and Ronan, all of whom are precious to their hearts. He is also survived by one sister, Barbara Reese Day Hutchinson; one brother, John Steele; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. There’s one more who is very dear to Edward, their dachshund and his “baby”, Sabrina. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by eight brothers and six sisters.
A service to celebrate Edward’s life’s journey will be held at Ebenezer Southern Methodist Church, 112 Ebenezer Road, Leesville, SC, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 8th, his birthday. The Rev. Dr. Gerald Watford and the Rev. John Hood will serve as ministers. With great respect and honor, his grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
