Esther Sharpe Gunter

September 1, 1928 — January 13, 2018

Esther S. Gunter, 89, of Gilbert, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Esther was born on September 1, 1928 in Orangeburg County and was the daughter of the late Fletcher L. and Fannie Mae Hutto Sharpe. She was the wife of the late Randolph Gunter for 57 years prior to his death in 2003.

She is survived by her children, James N. Gunter (Patty), Sylvia G. Cook (Walter), Allen L. Gunter, Nancy G. Corbin (Al), Sandy G. Cason (Donnie) and Mary G. Miles (Keith); grandchildren, Chuck Cook (Carla), Karen Jones (Chris), Jeff Cooper (Susan), Shannon Pytel (Steve), Jamie Gunter (fiancée Jennifer), Michael Gunter, Laura Vaughn (Brandon), Andrew Cason (Katherine), Alex Cason (Kristin), and Ryan Miles (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Grayson (Brittany), Brent, Hannah, Hudson, Garrett, Brianna, Grace, Savannah, Madeline, Landon, Kolton, Easton, Sawyer, Noah and John; great-great grandchild, Jensen; sisters, Shirley S. Williams, and Lois S. Gleaton (Willis); sister-in-law, Nancy Sharpe; brother, Major Sharpe, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Esther was predeceased by her sisters, Lillie Mae S. Williams and Thelma S. Arnold, and brothers, Clinton, Hilbert, Nolton, Joseph and Eleby Sharpe.

Esther lived her life as a woman who had a strong faith in God, and always set an example before family and friends. She was a Proverbs 31 woman, and a homemaker in every sense of the word, and always enjoyed the gathering of family and friends at her home. Her friends in her church and community have been on the receiving end of her many prayers and acts of kindness. Her legacy will be that she was a loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and a prayer warrior who never wavered in her amazing faith and trust in God. Many people have been inspired by her, and are blessed for having her encouragement in their lives. Esther, along with her late husband were charter members of the Gilbert Church of God. In recent years she attended First Calvary Baptist with her daughters as her health permitted.

A home-going service for Esther S. Gunter will be held at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel at 2 o’clock on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 15 from 5:30-7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

“Her children arise and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28)

The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, Doris R., Gloria S., Sandra S., and Nancy S.; her physician Dr. Stacie Boyer, Hospice Care of S.C., and the staff of Saluda Nursing Center. Memorials made be made to a charity of your choice.
