Evelyn Lybrand

Evelyn Cockrell Lybrand, 99, of Batesburg, entered into her eternal home, Monday, September 20, 2021, after living a long and blessed life. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 23rd at West Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bob Woodyard and Rev. Robert Culbertson will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. The family will be receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Cheryl Smith, 242 Old Golf Course Road, Batesburg, SC 29006. Active pallbearers will be Daniel Cockrell, Carey White, Wayne Cockrell, Steve Cockrell, Ron Byrd, Kenny Warren, Thomas Edwards and Marty Parkman.

Mrs. Lybrand was born in Batesburg, SC, a daughter of the late Tyrie and Ida Lillie Goff Cockrell. She was married to the late Herbert Hoover Lybrand. She retired from Graniteville Textile after 30 years. Mrs. Lybrand loved the Lord. She was the oldest member of West Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of The Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Lybrand was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her kind, gentle and understanding ways endeared her to all who knew her. She was surrounded by those who loved her. Her family will always remember her love and selfless devotion to them. She was the matriarch of the family, loving and caring for her siblings and helping instill Christian values and keeping peace. Her relatives and friends will always remember the love, loyalty and kindness she had for them. Her values and memories will remain with us forever.

Her memory will be cherished by her family which include her children, Jerald Lybrand (Sherri) and Cheryl Smith (Billy Joe); grandchildren, Heather Soper (Brad), Jared Lybrand (Rachel), Natalie Long (Mitch); and great grandchildren, Merideth, Landon, and Carley Soper, Lillie, AJ, Emma and Addie Lybrand, and Myla and Jake Long. Also surviving are her siblings, Heyward Cockrell, Christine Parkman, Annelle Cockrell, Shelby Jean Givens, Virginia Corley (Robert) and Bryson Cockrell (Judy). Memories will be cherished by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, along with many many friends who will miss her. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Vernon Cockrell, Lemar Cockrell, Harvey Cockrell, and Doris White.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Saluda Nursing Center, Sawyer Unit, for all their love and care of Mrs. Lybrand. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Creek Baptist Church, 248 Church Rd, Batesburg, SC 29006.
