Ferris Ervin “Smitty” Smith, 79, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 31, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Providence Lutheran Church Cemetery with Rev. Johnnie Muller officiating with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Mr. Smith was born in Monetta, SC, son of the late Barney Brooklyn and Gladys Rankin Smith. He was a member of Providence Lutheran Church. Mr. Smith retired from the United States Air Force and U.S. Post Office and was working for A & J Escort. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, American Legion, DAV, football, baseball, cooking for his squadron in the A.F., Gardening, Working with Handicap Children and his grandchildren. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Gene Cockrell Hunting and Fishing Club.
Surviving are his wife, Melba Virginia Honeycutt Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, John Brooklyn (Diana) Smith; Stuart Lee (Nicole) Smith; daughters, Cheryl L. Beier; Donna J. (Curtis W.) Potts; step-daughters and son-in-law, Melanie (John) Wright; Tempy Demarco; Joey Richardson; sisters and brother-in-law, Maggie (Charles) Fulmer; Veral Rikard; brother and sister-in-law, Barney Linwood (Shirley) Smith; Randall (Rita) Smith; fourteen grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sister, Judy Rikard; brother and sister-in-law, Richard Buford (Pauline) Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 30, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, and prior to the visitation at his residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
