Furman Luther Cook, Jr., 77, of Gilbert, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. Mr. Cook was born in Leesville, SC, the son of the late Furman Luther Cook, Sr. and Myrtle Ethel Kelly Cook. He was married to the late Cindy Cook. Bug, how most people knew him, enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, drawing, painting, and whittling works of art from a block of wood. He was a great welder and could make just about anything with metal. Bug was an avid Clemson Tigers, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets football fan. He was a jack of all trades who loved God, his church and his family. Mr. Cook was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church. Bug was a great brother, husband, uncle and a friend of all.
Surviving are his sisters and brother-in-law, Janie C. Taylor (Berley), Patty B. Hutto, Ada C. Hinson; brother and sister-in-law, William L. "Petey" Bush (Reva); along with his brother-in-law, Randy Ricard; sisters-in-law, Risa Cook and Vicky Cook; as well as many nieces, nephews and extend family members. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Homer M. Cook, Robert T. Bush, Kenneth M. Cook, Sr; sister, Joyce C. Ricard; and brother-in-law, Virgil Hutto.
The funeral service for Mr. Cook will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 30th, at First Calvary Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Mendle Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 PM at the church. Active pallbearers will be: Matthew Hinson, Adam Ricard, Brandon Ricard, Randy Ricard, Harold Black and Kenny Cook, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be: Donna M. Hutto.
