Gene Ray Rodgers, 63, of Batesburg, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, October 25, at Samaria Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery with Rev. Bill Paulling, Rev. Stephen Gantt, and Rev. Dennis Metts officiating. Visitation will be held after the service in the fellowship hall. Pallbearers will be Robert Padgett, Malcolm Bryant, Chris Connelly, Karl Cato, Johnny Ligon, Jimmy Thrailkill, Boyd Benton, Dennis Whitman, and Benny Troutman. Honorary pallbearers will be Forrest and Jeannette Shumpert, the volunteers at the Christian Ministry Center and the Mt. Ebal Men's Prayer Breakfast Group. Mr. Rodgers was born in Lexington, SC, son of Ray and Betty Rodgers. He enjoyed volunteering at the Christian Ministry Center for almost 30 years. He was a trustee, deacon and Sunday School teacher of the adult Sunday school class at Samaria Baptist Church. Gene Ray was a model of Christian service to those around him. He was deeply concerned for others in need, physically and spiritually. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Celia Nichols Rodgers; mother and father; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy Hartley; Debbie (Larry) Poole; and Joy (Allen) Shumpert; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaria Baptist Church Building Fund, 6560 Fairview Road, Batesburg, SC 29006 or Christian Ministry Center, P.O. Box 2336, Leesville, SC 29070.
