George Marion Shealy, "Sonny", a lifelong resident of Batesburg, SC, died November 7, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold Hoyt Shealy and Anna Idonia Whittle Shealy. He was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Batesburg where he held various positions. For many years Sonny managed Shealy Furniture Company which was founded by his father. Mr. Shealy also served Lexington County as Magistrate for 12 years and was known affectionately as "The Judge". Sonny attended Clemson College and avidly followed his Tigers. While at Clemson he was a member of the Jungleers, a jazz ensemble. Many in the Batesburg community will remember his record shop as well as his "radio voice" as he played the current hits of the 60's on WBLR. He also helped the youth of Batesburg-Leesville High School form a teen club and was the voice of the Civitans little league baseball games. The Shealys were one of the founding families of W. Wyman King Academy. Mr. Shealy was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing and working with his flowers. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Meriwether "Betty" Floyd Shealy; three children, Paul Marion Shealy (Ginger), Richard Hoyt "Ricky" Shealy (Mandy) and Anna Elizabeth "Beth" Shealy Gray; and grandchildren, Jordan Meriwether Shealy, William Douglas Gray II, Elizabeth Meriwether Gray, and Curtis Marion Shealy. Visitation will be held in the sanctuary at 1:00 P.M. followed by funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 10, at First Baptist Church of Batesburg with interment at Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Henry Stamper officiating. Active pallbearers will be Bob Shealy, Jeffrey Shealy, Larry Shealy, Mack Whittle, David Gray and William Gray. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Youth Fund of First Baptist Church of Batesburg.
