Gertrude Louise Rodgers Jones passed away peacefully at home at the age of 100 on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church with interment at Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Paulling officiating.
A lifelong resident of Aiken County, she was born to the late Hilery Harvey and Maggie Eleanor Rodgers on November 14, 1921. Following her marriage in 1940, she moved to her home at Jones Crossroads and resided there until her passing. Mrs. Jones was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church. Her joy of gardening was only exceeded by her love of spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her four daughters, Brenda Kay Jones Fallaw and Maggie Eleanor Jones Fox, both of Aiken; Carolyn Louise Jones and Dorothy Lois Jones Phillips (Gary), both of Batesburg-Leesville; one son, Clyde “Sonny” Havird Jones, Jr. (Brenda), of Columbia; 10 grandchildren, Dr. David Jerold Fallaw, Sr. (Robyn), Maggie Eleanor Fox Shakar (Robert), Carson LaVaun Fox, Jr., Austin Havird Fox (Elizabeth), Susan Louise Fox (Paul), Dr. Gariane Phillips Gunter (Tracy), Hilery Grace Phillips, Franklin Havird Jones, Parker Waring Jones, and Meriwether J. Jones Crawford (Taylor); and 11 great-grandchildren, Caroline Kay and David Jerold Fallaw, Jr.; Preston Clyde, Price Robert, Caroline Sullivan, and William Lewis Shakar; Ashtyn Devin, Suttyn Brooklyn, and Miller Austin Fox; and Isabella Grace and Tracy Capers Gunter, IV.
In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 59 years, Clyde Havird Jones, Sr.; brother Hilery Silas Rodgers, sister, Ketura “Kay” Rodgers Sharpe, grandson, Gary William Phillips, Jr.; and sons-in-law, Jerold “Jerry” Fallaw and Carson LaVaun Fox, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Dr. David J. Fallaw, Carson Fox, Austin Fox, Franklin Jones, Parker Jones, Dr. Robert Shakar, Preston Shakar, Price Shakar, William Shakar, Dr. Paul Fleming, Tracy Gunter, III, Taylor Crawford, Rodger Sharpe, David Rodgers, Broadus Rodgers, and Randy McAlister.
The family would like to thank her caregivers for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, 5 Lion Loop, Batesburg, SC 29006.
