Gwen Fetterly

Gwen Fetterly, 91, of Batesburg-Leesville, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Born July 6, 1924 in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of Guy Oneal Spratlin and Elizabeth English Spratlin. She married her husband of 47 years, Dale Fetterly in 1945. Gwen was a homemaker and active parent for her two daughters. When her daughters grew older, she worked for 14 years as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. She and Dale made their home in Columbia until, in 1968, they retired to Batesburg-Leesville.

In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Lynda Fetterly Jacobs; sister, Faye Spratlin Kluth; and brother, Robert Oneal Spratlin. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Goodwin (Guy) of Danville, VA; sister, Barbara Lattimore (Jimmy); and sister-in-law, Gaywinard (Bill) Spratlin.

She leaves three grandchildren; Bob Thompson (Melissa), English Begley (Chris), and Mike Thompson; and three greatgrandchildren; Dale Thompson, Cooper Wallace, and Darby Wallace; two step grandchildren, Ashley Ballentine (Bruce), and Brandt Goodwin (Amy) and their children, Blake Ballentine and Ellis Goodwin as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Fetterly was a member of Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church. She had been residing at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Center in Danville, VA for the past three years. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the Roman Eagle staff for the compassion and excellent care shown to her during her stay.

A graveside service for Mrs. Fetterly will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery, 210 Bethlehem Circle, Leesville, SC 29070, with Dr. Don Marshall officiating.
