Irene Smith

Irene Smith, 91, of Leesville, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 1st at First Baptist Church of Leesville with burial to follow in Ridge Crest Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Leonhardt officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.

Mrs. Smith was born in Leesville, SC, a daughter of the late Brice Hall and Myrtie Oswalt Smith. She was married to the late Edward Smith in 1945. In 1965, they opened Ed Smith Lumber Company and worked there together until their passing. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Leesville.

Surviving are her children, Ray (Joann) Smith, Wayne (René) Smith, and Cathy Smith (Butch); brother, Ralph Hall; sister, Earlene Swygert; half-brother, George Smith; half-sister, Mary Jane Palmer; grandsons, Jamie (Jenny) Smith, Neil (Lisa) Smith, Justin (Leslie) Smith, and Derek (Carrie) Smith; and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, J.B., Brenton, Truitt and Clifton Hall; sister, Carrilou Spurlock; and a half-brother, Gene Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Leesville or Compassionate Care Hospice. The family would like to give a special thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice and to Paula and Kimberly Pitts for all their love and care during this difficult time.
