Jacob Doyle Cockrell, 81, of Batesburg, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, March 22, at Hulon Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery with full military rites with Rev. Robert Patterson, Rev. Johnny Muller and Rev. Robert Culbertson officiating.
Active pallbearers will be John Hartley, Bobby Anderson, Jody Temples, Wally Gantt, David Gulledge, and Melvin Hallman.
Honorary pallbearers are Senior Men’s Sunday School Class, Steve Bryd, Ham Bryd and Haney Floyd, Jr.
Mr. Cockrell was born in Batesburg, SC son of the late Julian and Cora Burkett Cockrell. He was a member of Hulon Baptist Church, deacon, Sunday School Teacher, brotherhood director for 40 plus years, and head usher. He loved fishing with buddies. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Owen Corning Fiberglass for 32 ½ years.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Shelby Jean Cockrell; sons, J.D. Cockrell
Jr., Pat Cockrell; daughter and son-in-law, June Furtick (Phil); sister-in-law, Evelyn C. Cockrell; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Cockrell; great granddaughter, Jessa M. Furtick.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
