James “Andy” Umbarger, 67, died Tuesday, November 10th, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 13th, at Quattlebaum Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Metts officiating. The family will be at the home of his sister-in-law, Pauline Umbarger.
Mr. Umbarger was born in Lexington County, a son of the late Lee “Shorty” and Irma Matthews Umbarger. Andy was a mountain man living in the sand hills! He enjoyed sitting on the back porch and telling stories, especially with his sister-in-law, Pauline.
Surviving are his wife, Paula Rish Umbarger; step-children, Juanita Rish, Wendy Gantt, Robert Sasser; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Johnny (Hilda), George (Miriam), Dean (Carolyn) of Leesville, and Mike (Pat) Umbarger of Gilbert; sisters, Dawn (Everette) Shealy, Mary (John) Gantt of Leesville, and Debra (Oscar) Gentry of Ward; sister-in-law, Pauline Umbarger of Leesville; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and great great nieces. He also leaves behind his friends, Bill Lynch, Myles Howell and Mike Rucher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Umbarger.
