Joel Harris Geo Massey, of Leesville, passed in his home on Saturday evening, the 7th of March, after a long illness. Mr. Massey was born in Atlanta, GA and raised in Elberton, GA. After high school, Mr. Massey attended the University of Georgia. After completion of the first year, he withdrew and enlisted in the Army where he served as a scout/sniper with the 5th Calvary in Germany where he protected those seeking freedom over the Berlin Wall. Later in life he was a roofing contractor in Greenville, SC. He moved to Leesville, Saluda County, SC in 1999. He then found his true calling and became a long distance OTR driver where he traveled every state in the continental USA with the exception of Alaska before his illness. He was co-founder and on the board of directors for Heart & Soul Ministries in Batesburg-Leesville for 10 years. During his enlistment he was predeceased by his father, Daniel Massey and later by his mother. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Massey of Leesville, SC. His son Daniel Massey of Greenville, SC. His step son Christopher Dooley of Lexington, SC. His step daughter Jessica (Leon) Hutto of Saluda, SC. 5 grandchildren: Bryson and Carlee Hutto of West Columbia, SC. Joel Thomas "J.T." Dooley of Saluda, SC. Damien and Brayden Massey of Greenville, SC. Two sisters: Samantha Rapp of Roanoke, VA and Judy Fretwell of Madison Heights, VA along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Milton Shealy's Funeral Home in Batesburg, SC on Tuesday March 10th from 6:00 until 8:00. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday March 11th at 1:00 pm at the Gilbert Church of God on US Hwy 1 with a family dinner to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
