Josephine Chester Ard Moore

January 29, 1941 — October 1, 2015

Josephine Chester Ard Moore, 75, passed away on October 1, 2015 at her home in Batesburg, SC. She was born on January 29, 1941 in Columbia, SC to Douglas and Jessie Mae Thompson Ard. Josephine attended Gilbert schools. She was retired from Amick Poultry. Josephine, affectionately called "JoJo" by many of her family members, was a born again believer and attended Double Branch Pentecostal Church. She always ended her prayers by saying, "thank you Lord Jesus from the bottom of my heart." She enjoyed hosting potluck dinners for family and friends in her home. She had a passion for fishing and spending time on the Santee River. She loved and cared for various types of animals on her pond side farm. Also an avid reader, she loved reading about the pioneering adventures of the early west and her love for cowboy westerns overflowed to movie watching. She spent many years living close to her family in Augusta, Georgia, with the last few decades living in the Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina areas. Josephine is survived by the love of her life, Alfred Maroney of Batesburg, South Carolina; her daughters, Shearon Smith of Columbia, South Carolina; Debbie Zabawa of Richmond, Kentucky; Christine Steffens of Lexington, South Carolina; Susie Moore of Batesburg, South Carolina; Eric Smith of Evans, Georgia; Sandy Hartley of Leesville, South Carolina; Laura Maroney of Batesburg, South Carolina; Charles (Lita) Ard of Deltona, Florida; Cleve "Jimmy" (Brenda) Ard of Trenton, South Carolina; Lucy Chavous of Augusta, Georgia; half-sisters Evelyn Ard Ethridge of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Mary Ard of Georgia; her grandson Joey Bentley whom she was lovingly raising as her own; her grandchildren: Glenn Smith, Lynn Smith, Amanda Smith, Krista (Zach) Rhodus, Jared Zabawa, Eric Moore, David Hughes, Nikki Dannemiller, DJ Hughes, Channon Clamp, Austin Shealy, Skylar Maroney, Nick Oswald, Tory Hartley; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members whom she loved dearly. Josephine was preceded in death by both of her parents; a sister Bertha "Midge" Blanchard; and grandson Marcus Hughes. Special appreciation goes to Hospice for taking such good care of her during her illness with ovarian cancer. A celebration of her life will be held at her home on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jacob Workman officiating. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at the home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to a Cancer charity of your choice.
