Larry Wilson Gunter

March 3, 1953 — August 28, 2023

Larry Wilson Gunter,70, a devoted husband, loving father, Vietnam Veteran, and passionate patriot of Batesburg-Leesville, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and an unwavering commitment to his country and loved ones.

Born on March 3, 1953, Larry grew up to become a man of remarkable character and dedication. After completing high school, he felt a calling to serve his nation and joined the United States Army, where he bravely served in Vietnam as a Gunner and Demolition Expert. His sacrifices and commitment to defending his country's ideals were a testament to his unwavering patriotism. After his service, he worked at Savannah River Site as a Senior Electrical Instrumentation Technician retiring in 2000. While inventing numerous things for the world renowned nuclear site in Augusta, Georgia, he is accredited for inventing the safety harness (1993) and catwalk grate lifting tool (1992).

Larry's dedication extended beyond his military service and career. He was a beloved husband to Elizabeth A. Gunter for over four decades. Ever since high school and writing on her purse in permanent marker “I Love Ann”, she hung the moon for him. Together, they faced life's challenges with unwavering strength and support for each other living the example of opposites attract.

As a father, Larry was a guiding light in the life of his daughters: Des’ola Mecozzi, Adrienne Price, and Melanie Price. His life experience, work ethic, and overall guidance taught them the importance of hard work and pride.

Larry had a deep connection to the land and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid gun enthusiast and found solace in farming, nurturing the land with the same care and dedication he showed to his family and country. Farming gave him peace of mind like nothing could (except boiled peanuts that he made almost every day during the season). His passion for helping others was evident in his acts of kindness and selflessness, always lending a helping hand to those in need.

One of Larry's greatest joys was his love for the United States of America. He held a deep admiration for the principles on which the nation was founded and took great pride in being an American. His patriotism was contagious, and he inspired those around him to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities that the United States offered.

Larry W. Gunter's memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Gunter; his three daughters Des’ola Mecozzi (Kevin), Adrienne Price (Mark), and Melanie Price(Tommy); his three grandsons, Bjorn Mecozzi, Tony "Bud" Price, and Jacob Price; his three surviving siblings, Annette Thibault (T-Bow), Sammy Gunter (Peggy), and Bruce Gunter(Susan); and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is predeceased by his parents, Desola & Janet; and his brothers, Julian Gunter and Morris Gunter. His legacy of service, love, and devotion to his family and country will continue to inspire generations to come.
