Laura Joye Harmon, 35, of Columbia went home to be with her Savior on Monday April 5, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, 5 Lion Loop, Batesburg, SC. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. Laura was born in Hartsville, SC and was the daughter of Rev. Ernest Kyle Harmon and Sue Smith Harmon. Growing up in Batesburg, she was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the SC Governor's School for Science and Mathematics and of Cornell University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy. She was employed as a paralegal in Columbia. Laura loved kayaking, hiking, cooking and growing orchids. She was a member of the Columbia Orchid Society. All her life she loved music, singing in church and school choirs and musical productions, and she enjoyed Broadway musicals.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Travis Harmon and his wife, Bianca of Lexington; and maternal grandparents, James H. and Dorothy Smith. She is also survived by her uncles, Allen Harmon and wife, Connie, Chuck Harmon and wife, Twjania all of Saluda; and aunt, Joye Smith of Birmingham, Alabama as well as several cousins. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ernest J. and Tiny P. Harmon.
