Layman Rikard

April 22, 1945 — June 23, 2023

Layman W. Rikard, 78, of Leesville passed away Friday, June 23, 2023. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Thomas Avon and Ella Lou Taylor Rikard. Mr. Rikard was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Vietnam era. A retired farmer who was known to be a simple man, loved to fish and coon hunt. His pride and joy were his grandkids. Mr. Rikard was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church of Leesville, however in recent years attended Eastside Baptist Church.


Surviving are his son, Byron Rikard (Kathy); grandchildren, Courtney Hildebrand (Jason), Alisa Seawell, Brett Seawell (Veronica); along with his great grandchildren, Greyson and Hudson Hildebrand and Scarlet and Liam Seawell. Also surviving are his brothers, Earl Rikard (Judy), Verl Rikard; and a sister, Lila Gulledge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Freeda Ruth Warren Rikard.


The service for Mr. Rikard will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 30th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Bruner officiating. Burial will follow at First Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 325 Mill Street, Batesburg, SC 29006.
