Marvin Sandford Smith, 77, of Gilbert, SC, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Born in Lexington County, he was the son of the late Watson Elno and Betty Lou Bouknight Smith.
A devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Marvin taught Sunday School for many years and shared his faith with all who knew him. He was an avid coin collector and arrowhead enthusiast and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and dining out with his family. Marvin was also known for his love of hard work, embodying a strong work ethic and a servant's heart. Marvin was the cornerstone of his family, always putting the needs of others before his own. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will be cherished forever.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Christine Gunter Smith; children, Louise Stevens (Jimmy) and Joseph Eugene Smith (Nikki); grandchildren, Ashly Coulter (Jeff) and Steven Dennis; along with his great grandchildren, Marissa and Justin Coulter and Bella and Anthony Dennis.
The funeral service to celebrate Marvin’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24th, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Metts and Rev. Randy Derrick will officiate. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
