Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Carswell

June 6, 1945 — September 3, 2022

Mary “Libby” Carswell, 77, of Leesville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 3, 2022. She was born to the late Odell and Mary Risinger in Leesville and remained in Leesville for the entirety of her life. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where she often shared her God-given talent of playing the piano, even though she knew no notes.

Libby graduated from Gilbert High School, where she was voted homecoming queen, most athletic, and most popular. Having grown up playing basketball and softball, she was very passionate about sports and never missed an opportunity to cheer on her Carolina Gamecocks. Libby worked as a beautician for over 40 years, continuing to work even while doing cancer treatments. She never let her struggles keep her from living her life to the fullest. Libby was a social butterfly and never met a stranger. She loved being around people and was the life of the party everywhere she went. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, fun-loving personality, and strong faith in her lord.

Surviving are her daughter, Kimberly; grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy (Emily), Jessica, Allyson (Henry), Brooke, and Zack; along with her great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Bobby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Jo; and brothers, Carol and Jerry.

The family wishes to hold a private graveside funeral. If you would like to pay your respects, there will be a register book and photo memory display at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. Memorials can be sent to Providence Baptist Church, 3708 Pond Branch Road, Leesville, SC 29070.
