Mary Lynn Trotter

On Monday, May 1, 2023, our precious Maw, Mary Lynn Trotter, reached her heavenly home at the age of 82 years young. She spent her final days resting at home surrounded by loved ones. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She worked many years as a kindergarten assistant at King Academy and then at Gilbert Primary School. She also spent time working at Bohnam Academy, Headstart in Saluda, and Parkman’s Pharmacy. She was an active member of Richland Springs Baptist Church until she was no longer able to attend due to health reasons. For over 40 years, she faithfully served as Sunday School teacher for the 4 and 5 year old class. She was also a teacher for Girls in Action (GAs) for many years.

Born at home in Saluda County, SC, Mary Lynn was the daughter of the late Garner William and Lois Crouch Matthews.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Ansel Benard Trotter, Sr.; children, Ansel Benard Trotter, Jr. (Renee), Marsha Trotter Wash (Steve), Ira Glenn Trotter; siblings, Glenda Rivers (Mike), Wyman Matthews (Bennie); 5 grandchildren, Leslie Wash Smith (Justin), Michelle Wash Robinson (Brad), Joel Wash (Jessica), Courtney Trotter Hayes (Lee), Ansel Benard Trotter, III; 7 great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Addison Smith, Anna Grace and Andrew Robinson, Garner Wash, Barrett and Parker Hayes; Aunts, Mary Berry and Lou Ella Crouch; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Garner William Matthews, Jr.

Mary Lynn was one of the most selfless and loving souls to ever walk this earth. If you were blessed enough to meet her, you would surely never forget her infectious smile or the comfort and love that you felt in her presence. She had a strong faith and relationship with her Lord and Savior. Her love for Him radiated from her each and everyday. She was so very loved by everyone who knew her and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Saluda County Memorial Cemetery, 587 Richland Creek Rd, Ward, SC. Reverends Joseph Hallman and Darrell Engle will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
