Miriam Bouknight Martin, 93, of Saluda, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Born in Saluda, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rubie and Freeda Able Bouknight and the devoted wife of her late husband of 73 years, Ted Brown Martin.
Miriam was a member of Emory United Methodist Church and was recently attending Emmanuel Church. She had a deep love for gardening and flowers, enjoyed lively conversations with friends, and cherished time spent with loved ones. A dedicated educator, she worked as a paraprofessional at Riverside, where she made a positive impact on many young lives. She was also a passionate doll collector, proudly accumulating a collection of nearly 200 dolls. Miriam also worked alongside her son Billy at his gym, building relationships within the community.
She is survived by her children, Marsha Riley, Billy Martin, and Kyle Martin (Tammy); her grandchildren, Ashley Bouknight (Ty), Brantley Buzhardt (Scott), Chad Martin (Shannon), Chase Martin (Cassie), Colby Strickland (Tommy), and Cooper Martin (Kelsie); 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a soon-to-arrive great-great-granddaughter. She also leaves behind her beloved pet companion, Toot. In addition to her parents and husband, Miriam was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Bobbie Martin; and her siblings, Carolyn Sloan and Rubie Bouknight, Jr.
The funeral service for Miriam will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 27th, at Emmanuel Church, 793 Columbia Highway, Saluda, SC, with Rev. Burton Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery, 755 Emory Road, Saluda, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons: Chad Martin, Chase Martin, Cooper Martin, Cade Bouknight, Chad Martin, Jr, Cash Martin, Bubba Buzhardt, Knox Bouknight, Walker Buzhardt and Reece Strickland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Church or the Boys Farm,6655 SC-34, Newberry, SC 29108. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, Katie Stephens and Patsy Williams, for their devoted care and compassion.
