MSGT Gerald L. Buzhardt, 78, of Batesburg, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015. Mr. Buzhardt was born on October 26, 1936, in Saluda County. He was a son of the late John Jacob and Ruby Matthews Buzhardt. He attended American University, the University of Mississippi, and Golden Gate University where he received an MBA in 1976. He was a member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church and was a Mason. Lynn was a tree farmer and he retired from the US Postal Service and the Air Force. Mr. Buzhardt's overseas tours include Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Turkey, and Thailand. As a Vietnam veteran, his decorations include: a Presidential Unit Citation, 3 AF Outstanding Unit Awards, a Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, 5 AF Longevity Service Awards, a Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Surviving are his sons, Major (Ret.) SCARNG Steven C. Buzhardt (Sue); Karl Von Buzhardt; daughter, Kandi Bartle (Kevin); sister, Jonelle Lake; grandchildren, Kenny Bradtke; Ashely MacDonald (Michael); Nicole Buzhardt; Danielle Buzhardt; Ashley Spell (Mitchell); Madison Buzhardt; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy C. Buzhardt and his brothers, Danselor and Donald Buzhardt. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 14, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 15, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Batesburg Cemetery with full Military Rites with Rev. Mike Sherman officiating.
