Paula Susanne “Susie” Rye, 67, of Columbia, died Saturday, November 14, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 17th, at McLeod United Methodist Church Cemetery in Eastover. The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, we encourage all attendees to wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times.
Susie was the daughter of the late Laverne and Thelma Robinson Baker. She loved going to her brothers driving range, the ocean, the Bowery, and the local South Carolina State Farmer’s Market. She was the owner and operator of a produce stand. Susie also enjoyed her Marlboro Cigarettes and Budweiser Beer. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her former husband and lifelong friend, George Rye; sons and daughter-in-law, Rocky Rye (Michelle) and Jason Rye; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Brantley (Dawson); brother, Mike Baker (Ruth); sister, Beth Murphy (Johnny). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many other friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy and Bobby Baker, and a sister, Harriet Woods.
Memorials may be made to the Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
