Rachel Mitchell Helm

Rachel Mitchell Helm, 87, of Batesburg, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 16, at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery with Rev. Kyle Harmon, Rev. Butch Powell and Rev. Bill Paulling officiating. Visitation will be held after the service at the church, other times at the home of her daughter, Marie Mitchell. Active pallbearers will be Butch Powell, Wayne Mitchell, Wayne Bailey, Eddie Wilson, Dwight Davis, and John Hutto. Mrs. Helm was born in Leesville, SC, daughter of the late Luther J. and Berta Mae Shealy Bedenbaugh. She was a member of Mt. Ebal Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Mrs. Helm loved quilting and her flowers. Her family was everything to her. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert (Susan) Mitchell of Lexington; Larry (Karen) Velasques of Batesburg; daughter, Marie Mitchell of Batesburg; sisters, Jo Barnes of Leesville; Neoma Screws of Graniteville; brother, Asbury Bedenbaugh of Modoc; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and extended family, John (Kathleen) Hutto and children of Aiken. She was preceded in death by husbands, Omar Mitchell and Larry Helm; son, Larry Helm, Jr; brother, Bill Bedenbaugh; and sister, Margaret Kepler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mt. Ebal Baptist Church, 5 Lion Loop, Batesburg, SC 29006, or Hospice of Columbia, 141 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210.
