Samuel Hayne Livingston, Jr.

Samuel Hayne Livingston, Jr., 73, of Gilbert, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Samuel Hayne and Mary Evelyn Murphey Livingston. He was a 1970 graduate of Ridge Spring-Monetta High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina in 1979.

Sam was an adventurous spirit with a passion for the outdoors and exploration. Since 1988, he held an Advanced Open Water certification for scuba diving with NAUI. He was an avid scuba diver, snow skier, white-water rafter, camper, and trail cook. A devoted Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider, he found great joy on the open road. He was also the proud owner of the Cross-Eyed Dragon Pub.

Sam dedicated many years of service to the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, where he worked as a manager and IT consultant before retiring in 2015.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Nancy Marable Livingston of Gilbert; son, Stephen Glenn (Caroline) of Irmo; brother, James Livingston (Kim) of Ridge Spring; sister, Maria Livingston Hall (Andy) of Lexington; along with his granddaughters, Sydney and Avery Glenn. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Alex Hall (Rachel), Micah Hall (Emily), Taylor Livingston Berry (Alex), Paul Livingston (Haley), Samuel Livingston II, Jessie Livingston Newton (Brett), Lakin Livingston Quarles (J.T.), Jamie Marable (Danielle), Dan Leppek, Luke Leppek, Jonathan Adams, and Matthew Adams (Sherri); and sisters-in-law, Jane Marable Adams (Mike) of Statesville, NC; and Cindy Marable of Charleston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommie Livingston; brother-in-law, Steve Marable; sister-in-law, Anne Marable Leppek; and nephew, Timothy Marable.

The memorial service to celebrate Sam's life will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, March 28th at Milton Shealy Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Oscar Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock at the funeral home.
