Shirley Alice Hegedus

Shirley "Shirl" Alice Hegedus, 58, of Summit, SC, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Born in McKeesport, PA, she was the cherished daughter of the late Louis Hegedus and Alice Shirley Harris-Hegedus.

Shirl was a giving woman with a heart full of love and joy. Her affection for animals, particularly cats, was unmatched and she was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She found happiness in the simple things in life, like her collection of salt and pepper shakers, each piece holding a special place in her heart. Shirl delighted in the treasures she discovered on her frequent visits to Dollar Tree: a reminder of her ability to find beauty in the everyday.

She was the proud mother of Rose A. Reeder (Chelsea Haydel) of Belleville, IL and John G. Reeder of Summit, SC. She will be deeply missed by her children and all who knew her. Shirl’s warmth, kindness, and laughter brightened every space she entered, and her memory will continue to bring comfort to those she leaves behind.

Shirl was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joey Harris; cousin, Barb Revak; and the love of her life and father of her children, John J. Reeder.

Though Shirl has left this world, her legacy of love and compassion will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, dear Shirl—you are loved beyond measure.

Services for Shirl are still being planned and will be announced in the coming days.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in her name to Nine Lives Cat Rescue.
