Taylor Monroe "Tick" Carder, 86, of Batesburg, passed away on Saturday, October 4, after a couple years of failing health. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 7, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Teddy Higgins officiating. Visitation will be held after the service at the funeral home. Mr. Carder was born in Cumberland, Maryland on March 2, 1928, and was the only child of W. Taylor Carder and Lucy Spangler Carder. He retired as a painter, was one of the most respected painters around, and trained and mentored several generations of career painters who started their own businesses. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking and loved to help his family with their handyman projects. He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Shirley Lybrand Carder of Batesburg, five children, Ashley Carder and his wife Carolyn of Leesville, Brenda Counts and her husband Walter of Batesburg, James Carder of Batesburg, Kim Huggins and her husband Joel of Lexington, and Richard Carder of Batesburg, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of NHC in Lexington for the care they've provided during his illness.
