Thomas Butler, 86, of Monetta passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Born in Johnston, SC, on November 4, 1938, he was a son of the late Clyde and Nelle Workman Butler. Mr. Butler was a quiet man but one who passionately loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and could (and would often) testify personally of Christ’s saving grace and love. A mighty prayer warrior and faithful worshiper was he. No one ever had an unkind word to say about Thomas or Papa, as he was known by his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and it would be hard to find someone who worked harder to provide for his family. Mr. Butler had a unique way of being able to figure out how to build or repair anything. His gentle, unselfish spirit abounded and made him much loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Butler was a founding and faithful member of B-L Congregational Holiness Church where he served as a Deacon.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Quattlebaum Butler; children, Tanya Butts (Halleck), Terry Butler, Wendy Hartley (Buster), and Rhonda Eldridge (Doug). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marsha Yonce; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Butler; granddaughter, Samantha Hartley; and great-granddaughter, Addilyn Grace Bazzle; as well as two brothers and two sisters.
The service to honor Mr. Butler's life will be held at 3 o'clock on Wednesday, February 12th, at B-L Congregational Holiness Church, with the Reverend David Cockrell and Reverend Larry Roland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2 o'clock. Burial will follow in the Ridge Crest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be: Drew Eldridge, Travis Auch, Joshua Butts, Chance Snipes, Chase Snipes, Preston Bledsoe; and honorary pallbearers: Logen Risinger, Neiko Davis and Nathan Lamens.
Memorials may be made to B-L Congregational Holiness Church, 147 Dickert Dr, Batesburg, SC 29006.
