Valmore Davis Kirkland

Valmore "Kirk" Davis Kirkland, 85, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday, December 1 at Amick Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church with interment in Travis Park Cemetery with military rites with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Active pallbearers will be Fred Salters, Raymond Bodie, Bruce Rushton, Anthony (Tony) Kirkland, Charles Keisler and Doug White. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and his friends from Frensenius Medical Care of Batesburg-Leesville. Mr. Kirkland was born in Saluda, SC, son of the late Walter Perkins and Ora Ward Kirkland. He was a faithful member of Amick Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He was a Korean War Veteran, 1st Marine Division. Mr. Kirkland was a lifetime member of DAV, Masonic Lodge and retired from J.B. Martin. He was a dairy and beef farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving are his wife of forty two and a half years, Jackie Kirkland; children, Patra (Bob) Langford; Robin (Mose) Salters, Rocky (Donna) Tindal; step-daughter, Regina Buzhardt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma Rushton of Saluda; Nettie (Harold) McCarty of Ninety Six; Betty Jean (Lagar) Bedenbaugh of Leesville; Patsy (Milton) Shumpert of Columbia; Peggy (Milton) Derrick of Leesville; sisters-in-law, Olivia (Wendell) Kirkland of Batesburg; Betty Kirkland of Lexington; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Wenchall; brothers, Wendall and Henry L. "H.L." Kirkland; and brother-in-law, Shaw Rushton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 30, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amick Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund.
