Walter Tomihiro

March 21, 1938 — January 30, 2021

Major (Ret) Walter T. Tomihiro,82, of Columbia, passed away on January 30, 2021. Born on the Big Island of Hawaii, Walt entered the Army after college and served two tours in Vietnam where he earned the bronze star. He retired with 21 years of service as a Major in the Army at Fort Jackson, having served as Deputy Provost Marshal. After retirement he managed the Corner Pantry by USC in downtown Columbia. He is fondly remembered for his famous cooking including wontons, his quick wit, and sense of humor.

Walt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Corinne; his son, Bob (Lisa) and daughter, Jolene. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ally, Connor, Garrett, and Ian.

A service for Walt is planned for August 6th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
