Warren S. Compton, Sr. passed away peacefully on his 87th birthday, June 29, 2015. Born in 1928 to the late Jim Henry and Clara Haley Compton, he was the last surviving sibling of ten. He served honorably in The United States Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean Conflict. For more than 40 years he owned and operated Modern Upholstery on Scott Street, in Columbia. He was one of the original charter members of Jamil Shrine Temple, where he ultimately served as Potentate in 2003. In 2005 he was awarded his Fifty-Year Certificate as a member of Richland Masonic Lodge #39. Surviving are: one son, Warren Compton, Jr. (Kay); three daughters Patricia Corley, Deborah Owen (Bob), Lucile Thompson; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 3, at 10:30 A.M. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, July 2, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. The family would special thanks is extended to Rapha Residential Care and to the outstanding staff of Dorn VA Hospital for the excellent attention that our father received while in their care.
