Mr. William "Ted" Dewey Brown, 87, of Batesburg, passed away, Sunday, January 23, 2022.
Born October 6, 1934, in Batesburg, SC, he was the son of the late William Mitchell and Luella Hartley Brown.
Ted proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and the S.C. National Guard. He retired from U.S. Silica after 33 years of service to the company. Ted will be remembered most for his kindness, his love for his family and his wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid fisherman and loved showing his family how to "catch the big one" spending his days fishing on Lake Murray after his retirement.
Ted is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Frick Brown; a daughter, Wanda Hill (Jim) of Little Mountain; and a son, Phillip Brown of Batesburg. Also surviving are his granddaughters, Sonia Davenport (Damien), Alisha Bodie, Jessica Ponds, and Rachel Fanning (Shane); great grandsons, Jacob Jumper (Brandi), Garrett Fanning, Tre Davenport, Jase Lewis and great granddaughters, Shelby Fanning, Autumn Johnson; as well as his sisters, Louise Hartley and Lois Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William "Lanny" Orlando Brown; and sisters, Annalee Boatwright, Ruthie Cavalari, Janice Brown and Thelma Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 27th, at St. James Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Pastor Peter Morey will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 26th, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, also other times at his home. Active pallbearers will be Shane Fanning, Damien Davenport, Jacob Jumper, Edward Taylor, Pete McDaniel and Phillip Gifford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 308 Church Street, Leesville, SC 29070. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Veterans Administration Home Base Primary Care Team for all their support and care of Ted.
